HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- - The Southern Miss men's tennis team combined for nine wins in doubles and singles on Saturday in the Southern Miss Fall Invitational. The Golden Eagles opened day two, winning three doubles' matches against Arkansas-Little Rock. Domagoj Anic and Alex Arendt downed Edson Abrao (UALR), 8-5, followed by Diego and Oscar Machuca defeated Marko and Igor Nikitin (UALR), 8-3. Callen Fraychineaud and Will Thames won their match in a tie-breaker, 9-8 (7-5). Southern Miss continued its doubles' play against UAB. Anic and Arendt won their second match of the day with an 8-5 win over Hans Spangenburg and Adrian Tollstam (UAB). Diego and Oscar Machuca downed Alex Emory and Tyrone Ewels (UAB), 8-6. Fraychineaud and Thames dropped their match to Miki Artero and Tommy Petrich (UAB), 8-6. Andrew Poole and Wade Covington lost to Artero and Petrich (UAB), 8-5, but bounced back to defeat Dorian Sovic and Victory Wibreus (UALR), 9-7. Markus Wessinghage and Strate Krstevski defeated Guilherme Sahadhi and Diego Martinez (Troy), 8-6. In singles' play, Anic defeated Spangenburg in three sets, 6-2, 6-7, 6-2. Fraychineaud knocked off Artero (UAB) in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0. Oscar Machuca defeated Petrich (UAB), 6-2, 3-6, 6-3; Arendt lost to Ewels (UAB), 0-6, 6-2, 6-4; Wessinghage lost to Emory (UAB), 7-6, 7-5; Krstevski lost to Tollstam (UAB), 6-1, 4-6, 6-3; Thames lost to Dorian Sovic (UALR), 6-3, 6-4; Diego Machuca lost to Edson Abrao (UALR), 6-2, 6-2; and Poole lost to Marko Ballok (UALR), 4-6, 7-5, 7-5. All teams return to action on Sunday, beginning at 8 a.m. Matches will be played at the Hattiesburg Racquet Club and the Hattiesburg Country Club.
