HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Pauline Love tallied her ninth double-double of the season with 19 points and 11 rebounds and the Lady Eagles book ended a pair of runs in the first half as Southern Miss captured a 78-50 women's basketball victory over Birmingham-Southern College here Saturday afternoon at Reed Green Coliseum.

The win was the second-straight for the Lady Eagles (8-3) as they also won for the seventh time in eight home games this season.

Love finished the contest by hitting 9-of-17 shots while adding an assist and steal.

"I was not sure how sure she would play tonight," said Southern Miss coach Joye Lee-McNelis. "She went through the motions this week in practice. She had a great game and made a lot of things happen and created opportunities."

The two big runs for Southern Miss came at the beginning and end of the opening half.

The Lady Eagles opened the game by scoring the game's first seven points and then ended the half by scoring the final eight points - four coming from Love over the last 2:07 - to take a 35-21 lead at intermission.

"The first 10 minutes we really had to coach energy and effort," added Lee-McNelis. "Once we finally got our team going we were able to take control of the game."

The Panthers (6-3) got within 12 points four different times over the final 20 minutes, but Southern Miss led the entire contest.

Amber Eugene added 11 points for Southern Miss, while Stephanie Helgeson tallied 10 rebounds.

The Lady Eagles finished day shooting over 50 percent from the floor for the sixth time this season as they converted 27-of-53 shots for 50.9 percent from the floor.

Reba Ross was the only Panther in double figures with a game-high 28 points.

The Lady Eagles return to action Dec. 18-19 at the Caribbean Classic in Cancun, Mexico, when they will take on the University of Miami (Dec. 18) and Illinois-Chicago (Dec. 19). Both games are slated for 12 noon CT.
