Mustangs In Seventh At Maxwell
May 10, 2008
ARDMORE, Okla. (SMU) - The SMU men's golf team posted scores of 273 and 279 for the opening two rounds of The Maxwell at Dornick Hills Country Club on Saturday, May 10, and are in seventh place entering Sunday's final round. Leading the way for the Mustangs are All-C-USA golfers Ben Tewes and Kelly Kraft, who are tied for 13th individually at 2-over 142. James Minahan is 29th at 5-over 145, while Scott Barton (36th/147) and Dan Kleckner (42nd/148) round out SMU's five-man team. The tournament utilizes a unique format with each team playing together as a fivesome. Scoring for the tournament uses an alternate format as well. Instead of using the low four individual totals after each round, team scores are compiled using the low four scores on each hole. Draegen Majors and Frank Wrenn are playing the event as individuals and are 29th and 33rd, respectively. The tournament will conclude with 18 holes on Sunday at the par-70, 6,453-yard course.
SMU, the only Division I athletic program in Dallas, Texas, sponsors 17 sports and has been ranked as the top school in its conference for 10 of the last 11 years in the Director's Cup overall athletic rankings.
