Southern had three players score in double figures as they
downed Alabama A&M 65-49 Saturday night at the F.G. Clark Center in Baton
Rouge.
Chris Davis had a team-high 18 points off the bench as the
Jaguars rebounded from a three-point loss on the road on Monday night. Davis
was 6-of-8 from the field (including 2-of-2 from three-point range) and 4-for-4
from the free throw line. He finished with two rebounds and an assist in Joseph Jack (13 points, five rebounds, two blocks) and Barry Honore' (10 points, six rebounds, steal) each tallied double figures in scoring for Southern (7-11, 5-2). After shooting 57.1 percent in the first half and building a 40-29 halftime lead, Southern continued to hold on in the second half as both team struggled from the field. In the second half, Alabama A&M was 32 percent (8-25) from the field while Southern was held to 27.3 percent (6-22) in the period. Southern had 16 steals in the game while forcing 20 Bulldog turnovers. The Jaguars committed 15 turnovers in the game. Every Southern player played in the game. For Alabama A&M (4-12, 1-5), Mickell Gladness had game highs of 19 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks. LaNorris Smith had eight points and a steal for the Bulldogs. Southern will face the SWAC leading Hornets of Alabama State
at 8:02 pm on Monday night at the FG Clark Activity Center, on ESPNU.
