Baton Rouge, LA - Indi Johnson was held with out any points for the first time this season and not since the Jaguars faced Prairie View A&M University in the first round of the 2006-2007 Southwestern Athletic Conference basketball tournament. The Southern University women's basketball team still managed to jump out and never look back on their way to 55-47 victory over the Lady Bulldogs of Alabama A&M University. I've been saying all along: Don't let our record fool you," said head coach Sandy Pugh. "We still have yet to play basketball at the level we're capable of. You see flashes and glimpses every now and then." Southern (6-10, 4-3 SWAC) was led in the game that saw 10 players score, by Deidra Jackson. The junior totaled 13 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals. The Amite, LA native also led all players in turnovers with 10. The Blue and Gold finished the game with 31 turnovers. Freshman Courtney Scott scored 10 and ended the game with two steals and rebounds. The win puts SU in line to grab three straight as the Alabama State University Lady Hornets visit tonight. Alabama State is coming off a 61-45 lost to Alcorn State University on Saturday night. The lost drops them into seventh place while Southern moved up to fourth in the SWAC. "We have to get up and guard them man-to-man," Pugh said of facing the Lady Hornets. "We also have to box out."
Game time for tonight's contest is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. The event will take place in the F. G. Clark activity center on the campus of Southern University.
