JAGUARS MAKE IT THREE STRAIGHT

Indi Johnson led SU with 10 points.

Jan. 30, 2008

Baton Rouge, LA - Not since the 2005-2006 season has head coach Sandy Pugh and the SU women's basketball team achieve such a feat. That's exactly what happened Monday night as the Jaguars defeated the Lady Hornets of Alabama State University 52-35 for their third straight victory.

"When we click on all cylinders and get everybody focused on playing defense, hustling, boxing out and rebounding while doing all the little things well, we're not a bad team. We can play with some people," said Pugh. "But the first time we have a measure of success and then you want to shut it down, that can't happen. You have to stay focused."

Southern (7-10, 5-3 SWAC) only had one player scored in double digits. Senior Indi Johnson finished the game with 10 points and eight rebounds. Red-shirt freshman Freda Allen continues to rule the boards as she ended the game with 12 rebounds, six points a block and three steals. They were a total of 10 players that scored for the Blue and Gold while 13 players saw action on the court.

Alabama State's LaShundreya Townsend led all scorers with 11 points while Assunta Fulgham pulled in 11 rebounds.

Southern will welcome Alcorn State University to the F. G. Clark Activity Center on Saturday, February 2nd. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
