Baton Rouge, LA - Red-shirt freshman Freda Allen received noticed this week for her play versus Alabama A&M University and Alabama State University. The Lake Providence, La native and former All-Louisiana all-star received the Southwestern Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Week honor.

Allen averaged 7.0 points, 11 rebounds, three steals and one block in wins over A&M (55-41) and Alabama State (52-35). For the season she is averaging 25.9 minutes per game, 5.9 points per game and 9.3 rebounds per game. She also has totaled a team leading 33 steals, 17 blocks, six assists and 140 rebounds. 67 of those are offensive.

She currently ranks 1st in the SWAC in rebounds, 8th in blocked shots and 7th in steals. The all around player also ranks 41st in the NCAA in rebounds.

SU's last three victories have vaulted them into the third place in the SWAC standings. They will look to continue their winning ways by hosting Alcorn State University on Saturday, February 2nd. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
