Baton Rouge, LA - In their final contests of the year the Southern University softball team defeated the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Lady Lions 10-2 and 7-5 today. Southern (25-16, 13-4 SWAC) was led by transfer pitcher Lanaya Jenkins who struck out five and gave up three hits to earn her 10th win of the season. Sophomore Aruba Nicholas completed the first of two games 2 for 3 with a run and three RBI's. In game two head coach Nancy Marshall decided to rest her starters and let the bench get some action. Freshman Shanequah Goodson waited until the last game of the season to show what she could do. The Lithonia, Georgia native completed he game 3 for 3 with a run and three RBI's. Fellow freshman Chastoni Jones went 2 for 4 with a run scored. The Blue and Gold finishes the 2008 season sweeping three out of four Southwestern Athletic Conference Western Division foes. This is coach Marshall's eighth 20th win season in her 11 years as head coach. Her career record is 283-208.
