Final Stats

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Less than 24 hours removed from a pair of dramatic wins, St. Bonaventure suffered a heartbreaking of its own on Sunday afternoon with a 6-4 loss to Notre Dame.

The Bonnies were four outs away from recording their fourth win in a row, but the Irish rallied to score three runs with two outs in the eighth and held on for the win. The loss drops St. Bonaventure to 5-3 with one game remaining on its spring trip.

Senior lefty Michael Proctor scattered seven hits over six and one-third innings in his second start of the season. Proctor allowed three runs before leaving the game in the seventh without earning a decision. Usual starter J.B. Britton was credited with the loss after allowing three runs in the eighth.

Like Proctor, Notre Dame starter Brian Dupra lasted until the seventh inning and earned a no decision. Despite giving up the lead in the top half of the eighth, Tony Langford was credited with the win. After the Irish scored three runs in their half of the inning, closer Kyle Weiland picked up the save.

The Bonnies managed seven hits on the day off of four Notre Dame pitchers. Senior centerfielder Randy Moley continued to swing a hot bat, recording his fourth straight multi-hit game with a 2-for-3 performance. Cather Brandon Salerno as went 2-for-3 with a double. Sophomore Anthony Radich blasted his second home run of the season, a two-run shot in the eighth.

Trailing 1-0, St. Bonaventure manufactured its first run in the top of the fifth after Salerno doubled to leadoff the inning. Sophomore Kyle Gorby's sacrifice bunt moved Salerno to third and Josh Sova brought the junior around to score in the next at-bat with a fly out to center.

Notre Dame took back the lead in the top of the sixth as two-sport star Golden Tate scored all the way from first on a perfectly executed hit and run to make it 2-1. Tate, a wide receiver on the Irish football team, reached base on a two-out single.

St. Bonaventure tied the game for a second time in the top of the seventh on nearly the same routine as the first run. Salerno started things by reaching base after being hit by a pitch. Gorby, again, sacrificed Salerno into scoring position with a bunt. Junior Kevin Suminski then delivered a pinch-hit single into right center to score Salerno to tie it at 2-2.

Proctor ran into real trouble for the first time in the seventh and was pulled with one out and the bases load. Reliever Cory Sudbrook then walked home the go-ahead run on five pitches. Sophomore Adam Bristol then entered the game for Sudbrook with the bases still loaded and got the next batter to ground into a 4-6-3 inning ending double play.

After displaying some good defense to get out of a jam, the Bonnies showed off their bats as Randich smacked a two-run homer over the left center wall to give the Brown and White their first lead of the game, at 4-3.

Britton then entered the game in the eighth to seal the win and was well on his way after striking out the first two batters he faced. The Irish wouldn't go away as the next four batters reached base and scored three runs on two doubles, a single, one walk and a pass ball.

Now trailing 6-4 with one last chance to comeback, St. Bonaventure put a pair of base runners on but was unable to bring them around to score.

St. Bonaventure will play its final game of its Spring Break trip on Monday at noon. The Bonnies will take on Lehigh for the second time this week.
