Canisius puts abrupt end to Bonnie win streak

April 9, 2008

Final Stats

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Canisius tallied at least one run in every inning en route to a 24-8 victory over the St. Bonaventure baseball team as the Golden Griffins snapped the Bonnies' seven game winning streak earlier this afternoon at the Demske Sports Complex.

Following their first loss in over a week, the Bonnies dropped to 15-10 on the season while the Golden Griffins improved to 23-4 in the 2008 campaign.

The Brown and White captured an early 4-1 advantage following two innings of play thanks to a three-run homer from sophomore Anthony Randich in the club's first attempt at the plate. Junior Kevin Suminksi added an RBI in the top of the second to push the Bona advantage to three runs before the Golden Griffins exploded for 20 unanswered runs to take a 21-4 lead heading into the seventh frame.

St. Bonaventure tacked on an additional four runs down the stretch as junior Tristan Mulcahy accounted for the club's second home run of the day with another three-run yard ball in the top of the ninth.

Freshman Brad Steinbach earned the starting nod for the Bonnies, but lasted just 1.1 innings after surrendering four runs in the early stages. The Brown and White used five pitchers overall as sophomore Cory Sudbrook was credited with the loss despite tossing only 2/3 of an inning.

The Bona defense also struggled in Buffalo to the tune of five errors on the day, leading to seven of the Golden Griffin's 24 runs.

Senior Randy Moley was the only Bonnie batter with more than one hit vs. Canisius. The Buffalo, N.Y. native finished 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored.

The Bonnies return to action on Friday, April 11 for game one of a three-game home stand against Atlantic 10 rival Massachusetts. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
