April 25, 2009

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - The St. Bonaventure golf team held on to fourth place on Saturday afternoon as it completed the second round at the Atlantic 10 Championships at Mission Inn Resort.

Despite being 10 strokes over yesterday's score with a 306, the Bonnies entered the day and stayed in fourth place amongst the 12-team field. The Brown and White weren't the only team that saw its second round score increase Friday's opening round, as only three teams bettered their opening round score.

Charlotte held on to first place with a second round low score of 290 to sit at 572 (+4) for the tournament. Xavier (588) created some separation from the rest of the field with its second straight 294 to sit 13 strokes up on third place Temple (601).

Senior Brennan Payne entered the day in a tie for second place with teammate Nathan Peck. Payne's four-over par 75 on Saturday put him in a tie for fourth place (70-75/145) entering Sunday's final round. Payne's three birdies brought his tournament total to seven as the Arcade, N.Y. native played his final eight holes at two-under par. Payne is vying for his second straight A-10 All-Conference honor.

Peck's second round 78 moved him back to a tie for 10th place (70-78/148) in the individual standings. After posting four birdies on Friday, Peck could only manage 12 pars. Peck will enter the final round with a chance to still earn All-Conference honors.

Sophomore Chris Stoddard climbed four places on the individual leaderboard with a four-over par 75. Stoddard fired a 77 on Friday and sits in a tie for 19th place. It was an up and down day for Stoddard, as his scorecard featured four birdies and just eight pars.

Playing in his first A-10 Championship, freshman Kevin Lewis counted for the final score with a 78. Lewis' round was highlighted by two birdies and a two-over par 37 on the front nine.
