Whalen slated as A-10 Golf Performer of the Week

March 24, 2008

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - St. Bonaventure senior Andy Whalen has been named the Atlantic 10 Golf Performer of the Week for his play last week at the First Market Bank Intercollegiate in Williamsburg, Va.

The weekly accolade is the second of Whalen's career and first this season.

The Conklin, N.Y. product tore-up the River Course at Kingsmill Resort on the opening day, firing a three-under par 68. Whalen's first day included a field-high six birdies thanks to hitting 14 fairways. Whalen had his entire game going as he limited himself to just 29 strokes on the green allowing him to card a four-under par 32 on the front nine. Day two was much of the same as he posted a solid one-over par 72 to finish with a two-under par 140 for the tournament, good for sole possession of third place. Whalen led the tournament in par 4 scoring (-2) and was second in birdies (8) en route to leading the Brown and White to an eighth place finish out of 19 teams.

Whalen's third place finish was his second top 5 finish of 2007-08 and fourth top 10.

Whalen and the Bonnies will return to the links this weekend for the Towson University Lacrosse Homes Invitational. The two-day even will begin on Saturday, March 29, at 8 a.m.
