Payne named to A-10 Academic All-Conference team

May 1, 2009

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - St. Bonaventure golf senior Brennan Payne was named to the Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference team for the second straight season on Friday, in a voting conducted by the Conference's sports information directors.

A two-time A-10 All-Conference choice for his athletic accomplishments, Payne has now earned both accolades in the same season two straight years. He is the only student-athlete in program history to earn All-Conference honors twice in his career and one of three to be named to the Academic All-Conference team on two occasions.

Payne carries a 3.62 grade-point average (GPA) as an accounting major. Less than a month away from graduation, Payne was a Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar selection as a junior in 2007.

The Arcade, N.Y. native improved his stroke average each and every year of his career, posting a 75.2 average in his senior campaign - a figured that ranked 10th in the A-10. Payne posted three top 10 finishes and four top 20s, highlighted by his second career individual win at the Little 3 Tournament. Payne finished in the 70s or lower in 21 of his 23 rounds played this season.

Payne's fourth career A-10 Championship appearance brought his career round total in the Brown and White up to an even 100. Payne posted a career 75.5 stroke average while carding 16 career top 20 finishes. He recorded 12 under-par rounds and played in 46 events.

St. Bonaventure ended its 2008-09 season under first-year head coach Andrew Whalen with a six place finish at the A-10 Championships. Payne is the lone graduating senior off this year's squad.
