Final Stats

LEWISTON, N.Y. - St. Bonaventure won its second straight meet in convincing fashion with a 196-97 win at Niagara on Saturday afternoon. A total team effort saw eight Bonnies each win individual events against the Purple Eagles. Out of the day's 16 events, the Bonnies won 13 and finished second in nine.

The team of senior Roman Margulis, junior Pat Henahan and freshmen David Kundzik and Jared Robinson won gold in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:08.62). In the process, the Bonnies set a season-best time in the event, beating their old mark by more than five seconds.

In the 200-yard freestyle, Kundzik finished first with a time of 1:44.91. Robinson (1:48.58) and junior Dan Quirk (1:55.00) touched in second and third place, respectively.

Sophomore Mariusz Michalik took home gold in both the 200-yard butterfly (2:00.58) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:53.05) for the Bonnies.

Margulis claimed the top spot in the 100-yard backstroke, posting a time of 54.26. He was followed by senior James Wood (54.99) in second place and freshman Chris Baker (55.00) in third place. Margulis also won the 100-yard butterfly (52.37). Freshman Santiago Castaneda earned a third place finish (56.17) in the event for the Brown and White.

In the 200-yard medley relay, the B team of senior Michael Postles, sophomore Patrick Butler, freshman Kevin Murphy and Kundzik was victorious with a time of 1:38.78. The A team of Quirk, Michalik, Henahan and junior Chris Happel earned silver (1:39.65).

 

 

The Bonnies claimed the top three finishes in the 200-yard backstroke. Wood won with a time of 1:58.57, followed by Butler (1:59.40) and Quirk (2:06.33). St. Bonaventure swept the top three spots in the 200-yard IM as well. Senior Scott Jordan finished first in 1:58.25, with Baker (2:02.49) and Happel (2:03.50) placing second and third, respectively.

Murphy earned gold in the 200-yard breaststroke, touching with a time of 2:13.38. Happel claimed silver with a time of 2:21.40. In the 50-yard freestyle, Henahan finished first with a time of 22.16, while Happel finished third (22.94). Jordan earned gold in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 59.25, while Murphy claimed bronze (1:00.65).

On the boards, senior CJ Maurer posted a score of 277.80 in three-meter diving to win the event.

Castaneda touched for silver in the 1,000-yard freestyle, posting a time of 10:15.11. In the 100-yard freestyle, Robinson touched in second place (48.60), followed in third place by Baker (49.39).

The Bonnies are now 5-4 on the season. The team concludes its regular season on Wednesday, Feb. 6 at the Reilly Center when Buffalo pays a visit at 6 p.m.
