Bukowski named St. Bonaventure diving coach
June 17, 2008
ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - Former Penn State University diver Patrick Bukowski has been named the head diving coach at St. Bonaventure after finishing a four-year career on the boards with the Nittany Lions this past season, announced head men's swimming coach Sean McNamee. "We are looking forward to Patrick joining the St. Bonaventure swimming and diving family as he brings a strong background from Penn State," said McNamee. "He was a recruit for our diving program coming out of high school and we finally have him here!" Bukowski capped his career in 2007-08 with four top 10 results in the one and three-meter events, highlighted by a fifth place three-meter finish against West Chester (225.22 points). Since his debut with Penn State four seasons ago, Bukowski captured 24 top 10 finishes on the boards in both the one and three-meter. St. Bonaventure's new diving boss wasted little time in making an impact at Penn State with a pair of fourth place results in one and three-meter diving at dual meets vs. Rutgers and Virginia during his rookie year. The North East, Pa. product is no stranger to St. Bonaventure as he posted the second best three-meter performance of his career with a score of 229.80 during his sophomore campaign against the Bonnies. Bukowski also tallied one of his best efforts in the one-meter in his second season with 249.90 points against West Chester for a third place result. Prior to his arrival in State College, Bukowski enjoyed a successful high school career under the guidance of his father, Randall, at Mercyhurst Prep in Erie, Pa. He was a four-time district and state finalist at Mercyhurst as well as a Junior Olympic Eastern Qualifier. As a senior in high school, he registered a 30th place finish in three-meter diving at the Junior National Championships. Bukowski boasts extensive coaching experience heading into his first season in charge of the Brown and White. During his senior season at Penn State, he also served as the head diving coach at State College Area High School and guided the Little Lions to a pair of district championships on the boy's and girl's sides. Bukowski has also honed his coaching skills as a counselor at Penn State diving camps and as an assistant at the club level.
This past May, he graduated from Penn State with a bachelor's degree in psychology with a minor in business. |
