Doubles point proves key in Bonnies win at Buffalo
Feb. 13, 2008
BUFFALO, N.Y. - After failing to win a doubles point in their opening four matches of the spring season, the St. Bonaventure men's tennis team picked a good time to break that streak. The Bonnies doubles point victory proved to be the difference on Sunday as they defeated host Buffalo 4-3 on Sunday afternoon. The win improves the Brown and White to 2-3 in the spring season and is their last match before heading south during spring break to take on nationally ranked Georgia on February 26. The Bulldogs are the reigning NCAA Champions and are currently ranked No. 2 in the ITA Poll. Junior Victor Lecina and Leo Mochizuki teamed up at No. 2 doubles to defeated UB's Nikesh Singh Panthlia and Octavian Stane, 8-5. The underclassmen duo of sophomore Mikhail Sudakov and freshman Enric Larregola clinched the doubles point with a convincing 8-2 victory over Marcelo Mazzetto and Alexis Lluis at No. 3 doubles. The Brown and White clinched the win by taking the first three singles matches. Larregola was the first to finishing, defeating Juan Carlos Wynter, 6-4, 6-0, at No. 6 singles. Sophomore Diego Valdenegro followed suit at No. 5 singles with a dominating 6-1, 6-1, win over Lluis. Freshman Chris Post sealed the win for the Bonnies at No. 4 singles by taking down Stane in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5. St. Bonaventure 4, Buffalo 3
