Bonnies handle Charlotte to advance to A-10 Semis

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The St. Bonaventure men's tennis team posted a 4-1 victory over Charlotte on Friday afternoon in the quarterfinal round of the Atlantic 10 Tournament at the Club 4 Life Tennis Center. With the win, the Bonnies advance to the semifinals for the ninth time in their last 10 seasons. The Brown and White advance to take on top-seeded George Washington at 11 am on Saturday. The Colonials advanced into the semis after defeating Saint Joseph's 4-0 in their quarterfinals match. St. Bonaventure holds a 2-4 all-time postseason record against George Washington, who has knocked the Bonnies out of the A-10 Tournament each of the last two years. St. Bonaventure improves its overall record to 10-6 with its win over the 49ers, its fifth in a row. Charlotte, who defeated 12th-seeded Fordham earlier in the day 4-0, drops to 10-12 for the season. The Bonnies got off to a good start by capturing the all important doubles point, with wins at first and third doubles. After posting an 8-6 win with partner Chris Post at first doubles, senior Jonathan Luce captured another point with a 6-4, 6-3 win at his number two singles position to put the Brown and White up 2-0. Senior Leo Mochizuki and sophomore Enric Larregola picked up the final two points of the match with straight set victories at number three and number six singles, respectively, to wrap up the victory. Sophomore Moritz Bernhoerster collected the 49ers only point of the day with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Post at number one singles.
