Luce, Post earn final ITA Regional Ranking

May 29, 2009

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - The St. Bonaventure men's tennis duo of senior Jonathan Luce and sophomore Chris Post earned a No. 14 doubles ranking in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Region rankings, announced on Friday afternoon.

Both natives of Western New York and first team A-10 All-Conference selections this season, Luce and Post teamed up for a 10-3 record at top doubles in the spring season. The tandem posted back-to-back 8-6 wins in the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds of the A-10 Tournament to help the Bonnies advance to their third A-10 Championship match.

St. Bonaventure also earned its first team ranking of the season, finishing No. 14 in the Northeast Region. Head coach Mike Bates and the Bonnies will return four players from this year's squad that finished second in the A-10.

Luce's second consecutive appearance on the A-10 All-Conference team wrapped up a solid four-year career. The Bemus Point, N.Y. native spent most of his time at No. 2 singles, earning 12 wins. Combined with his time with Post at No. 1 doubles, Luce finished the year with an over doubles record of 15-8.

Post made his mark on the A-10 coaches at the Conference Tournament by winning one of the most dramatic matches in program history to help the Bonnies advance to the championship. Trailing 5-2 in the third and final set on match point, Post rallied to defeat GW's Yan Levinski - also a first team selection - 7-6 (3) to clinch the game-winning point. For the season, Post had 12 victories at top singles and went 17-12 in top doubles.

Just a few weeks after the season, Post presented the A-10 Sporting Award for not only his heroics on the court during the A-10 Tournament, but his sportsmanship just a few days after. After the Bonnies fell to Xavier in the championship match, Post emailed Xavier head coach Eric Toth to congratulate him on the victory, to wish him luck at the NCAA Tournament and thank him for the way the Musketeers celebrated following the victory.
