Bonnies raise $1,401 in "Think Pink" campaign
Feb. 19, 2008
ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - Thanks to the support of fans at last weekend's basketball doubleheader vs. George Washington at the Reilly Center, $1,401.46 was raised in St. Bonaventure's "Think Pink" initiative. All of the money, which was raised from donations and sales of pink t-shirts, will go to the Kay Yow/Women's Basketball Coaches Association Cancer Fund, which is named in honor of the North Carolina State women's basketball coach who is battling the disease. "We were honored to be a part of such an important initiative and thank all of the fans and people in the community who stepped up and aided us in the fight against this disease," said St. Bonaventure women's head coach Jim Crowley. The Bonnies women's team participated in the "Think Pink" promotion by donning pink t-shirts in pre-game warm-ups as well as pink shoelaces during the contest, while both coaching staffs and game administrators added pink to their attire. St. Bonaventure was one of more than 800 schools which participated in the nationwide "Think Pink" program, which is organized by the WBCA to raise awareness and funds for the fight against breast cancer. The game ended in a 63-60 Bonnies win over the 14th-ranked Colonials - just the program's second-ever win over a ranked opponent.
