Vote for Murray and Mitchell to win FAN Awards

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - Senior Katelyn Murray and junior Dana Mitchell have both been nominated for the 2009 Buffalo FAN Awards. Katelyn has been nominated for College Scholar Athlete of the Year while Dana has been nominated for the Women's Western New York College Player of the Year. The FAN Awards is a new organization that is led by former NFL great Ahmad Rashad that recognizes extraordinary athletic and academic achievements by high school, collegiate and professional athletes in a certain region. Buffalo and South Florida are the only two regions that have been selected so far for this amazing event. Murray was named to both the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America second team and the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I first team selection for the second straight season due to her success on the court and in the classroom. The Harrisburg, Pa. native carries a 4.0 grade point average in biology while posting stellar numbers on the court as well. Murray finished her career in 12th place on the Bonnies all-time scoring list with 1,129 points. This past season, Murray averaged a career-best 11.4 points per game on the court. Murray also joined the 1,000-point club earlier this season in a win over Rhode Island, making her just the 17th player to achieve the feat. Mitchell was selected to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference second team, following a season in which she finished second in the A-10 in scoring at 15.2 points per game. The Fairless Hill, Pa. product had another stellar all-around season for the Brown and White, leading the team in scoring and rebounding (5.7), while scoring in double figures in all 14 A-10 games this season. Mitchell also became just eighth player in the program's 38-year history to score 1,000 points and collect 500 rebounds during her time in the Brown and White.
