Feb. 27, 2008
ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - First-year St. Bonaventure lacrosse coach Christy Malone announced that seniors Brenna Houghton, Stephanie Jordan and Kimberly Ross will serve as team captains for the 2008 season. The trio sports has helped lead the Brown and White to a 32-16 record over their first three seasons, including a 12-9 mark in the Atlantic 10 and two consecutive conference tournament berths. All three earned All-Conference accolades in 2007. "Each of these three girls helped put St. Bonaventure lacrosse on the map and have exemplified leadership skills while doing it," said Malone. "They are very well respected by their teammates and will be vital in leading us back to the Atlantic 10 Tournament." A two-year starter on attack, Houghton etched her name into the Bona records books with a program-best 40 assists last season. A product of Fayetteville-Manlius, Houghton added a career-high 25 goals in 2007 en route to being named to the A-10 All-Conference second team. Houghton led the conference with 2.67 assists per game - a figure that ranked fifth nationally. Houghton enters her senior campaign on a 17-game point streak and will begin the year second in the nation on the active assists leaders list with 83.
A native of Penfield, N.Y., Jordan illustrated the meaning of student-athlete in 2007, leading her team on and field. Jordan was named to the A-10 Academic All-Conference team while starting all 15 games and finishing with 17 goals. She picked up her play in A-10 action, recording four of her seven multi-goal games against conference foes. Jordan returned last season after missing the final seven games of her sophomore year. Ross enjoyed a breakout junior season in 2007 that saw her earn Atlantic 10 All-Conference first team honors. A model for consistency, Ross tallied a goal in every game, including a team-high 11 hat tricks, and finished the season with 42 scores. Her 42 goals finished as the program's third-best single-season total and her six assists gave her 48 points for the year. One of the best all-around players in the league, Ross also finished second on the club in draw controls (30), ground balls (23) and caused turnovers (13). Led by a senior class of six student-athletes and total of 13 returners from last year's club that went 8-7, St. Bonaventure will open the season on Wednesday, March 5, in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. against Marist. Draw time is slated for 3 p.m.
