Four Bonnies earn All-Conference honors

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - St. Bonaventure women's lacrosse senior Keri Vito, junior Molly Hastrich, sophomore Christine Hanley and freshman Danielle Drabin all earned Atlantic 10 All-Conference honors on Thursday afternoon, as announced by the league office. Hastrich was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference first team and the Academic All-Conference team after a record setting junior season. Joining Hastrich in receiving A-10 honors were Hanley, who earned a spot on the All-Conference second team and Drabin, who became the fourth Bonnie to make the All-Rookie team in its four-year existence. Vito was the fourth Bonnie to garner an A-10 award, earning a spot on the Academic All-Conference squad for the second consecutive season. Hastrich had an incredible season that will go down as one of the greatest in St. Bonaventure lacrosse program history. The Horseheads, N.Y., native scored a program record 62 goals this past season, which led the Atlantic 10 and is the fourth highest total in the nation. Hastrich also has 15 assists to give her a program record 77 total points, which is tied for sixth-best in the nation. She tallied 13 hat tricks on the season, while leading the team with 12 free-position shot goals. Hastrich complimented her stellar on-field play with just as impressive results in the classroom, carrying a 3.44 grade point average (GPA) as an accounting major. Following an A-10 All-Rookie selection, Hanley put together a stellar sophomore campaign that earned her a spot on the All-Conference second team. The Syracuse, N.Y. product finished second on the team in goals (48), points (63), shots (101) and assists (15) from her midfield position. Hanley finished tied for fourth in the conference with her 48 goals and fifth in the A-10 with 63 points. Showing an incredible amount of consistency, Hanley tallied at least three points in 15 out of 16 games played. She led the team in caused turnovers (15), while also ranking among the top three in both ground balls (30) and draw controls (26).
Drabin continued St. Bonaventure's streak of producing solid first-year players with her A-10 All-Rookie team selection. The former Gates-Chili high school standout led a promising group of Bona freshmen with 33 goals and 40 points in her first year in the Brown and White. Drabin's 33 goals were second among all A-10 freshmen and 10th most among all players. Drabin had 11 multi-goal games from her attack position, including five hat tricks. Not only an offensive threat, Drabin displayed an aggressive defensive approach with caused 27 turnovers, the third most on the team. A co-captain and team leader during her senior year, Vito was the field general of the Bonnies offensive unit that scored 220 goals this season, the most in the Atlantic 10. The Clay, N.Y., native wrapped up a stellar four-year career in the Brown and White with her best season yet. Vito started all 17 games and finished the year with a career-high 29 points on 20 goals and nine assists. Vito, who has a 3.74 GPA as a management science major, finished her career in 15th place on St. Bonaventure's all-time scoring leaders list with 67 points on 51 goals and 16 assists. The Bonnies finished their 2009 campaign with a 7-10 overall record and a 1-6 Atlantic 10 mark. St. Bonaventure returns 11 of its 12 starters including Hastrich, Hanley and Drabin as it looks forward to 2010. |
