Final Stats

FORT MYERS, Fla. - For the second day in a row, the St. Bonaventure softball team dropped both of its contests at the Florida Gulf Coast University Softball Complex on Sunday afternoon in the final day of the first edition of the Spring Break Invitational.

Western Carolina handed the Bonnies a 10-2 loss in the club's first action of the day before host Florida Gulf Coast picked up its second triumph against the Brown and White in as many days with a 1-0 victory.

With its pair of losses, St. Bonaventure falls to 1-5 on the season.

In their second meeting with the Catamounts in the last three days, Bona quickly fell behind as Western Carolina registered six runs in the first two innings to take an early 6-0 advantage. Following just two innings of work, senior Brianna Bricker was yanked from the mound after walking six and throwing five wild pitches despite only allowing two hits.

The Brown and White finally crossed the plate in the sixth as the club tallied two runs to cut their deficit to 7-2. Senior Andrea Swanger and junior Ashley Kotz led off the inning with a pair of singles followed by a throwing error from the Western Carolina catcher to bring home Swanger for the Bonnies' first run of the day.

After a single from freshman Kara Morenus advanced Kotz to third, Bricker flied out to leftfield sending Kotz to the plate for the club's final run of the entire afternoon.

Western Carolina extended the lead to 10-2 with three more runs in the bottom of the sixth off of freshman pitcher Sarah Signore in relief.

Despite only allowing a single run, the Bonnies failed to cross the plate in game two as Florida Gulf Coast posted a 1-0 victory in the final contest of the tournament.

Following three and a half scoreless innings of ball, the Eagles started the bottom of the fourth with a leadoff triple from senior Carmen Paez who was quickly brought home during the next at bat thanks to a RBI single from junior Cheyanne Jenks.

The Bonnies mustered just one single from senior Kirstin Strong down the stretch as the Brown and White never threatened the Eagles' lead. Sophomore Sherri Thompson allowed just five hits with five strikeouts in the loss.

St. Bonaventure returns to action on Tuesday, Feb. 26 with a doubleheader against Florida Gulf Coast beginning at 7:00 p.m.
