PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Sophomore Sherri Thompson allowed just one run over two games en route to the St. Bonaventure softball team's doubleheader sweep of Temple on Sunday afternoon at the Ambler Sports Complex.

After suffering through a seven-game losing streak earlier this season in their spring break trip to Florida, the Brown and White have captured seven wins in their last 10 games to improve to 8-10 overall and more importantly 3-1 in Atlantic 10 action.

This afternoon's conference sweep was the club's first in over two years as the Bonnies last picked up consecutive league wins on the same day with a pair of triumphs over Rhode Island on May 7 during the 2006 campaign.

Thompson continued her impressive play in the circle as she notched her fifth and sixth wins for a 6-4 overall mark on the season. The second-year ace allowed just eight hits and one earned run over 14 innings with seven strikeouts of Owl batters. St. Bonaventure's 1-0 victory in game one was Thompson's first shutout win of 2008 and the team's second such performance this year.

Besides the dominant display from Thompson in the circle, senior Kirstin Strong came through at the plate by bringing in three of the four Bona runs against Temple with a trio of RBI.

Despite putting just three balls in play in game one, the Brown and White used timely hitting late in the contest to escape with the narrow 1-0 win. The Bonnies managed just one hit through six innings before senior Brianna Bricker's single in the top of the seventh. Freshman Kara Morenus quickly followed with her second double of the game to advance Bricker to third before Strong brought her fellow classmate (Bricker) to the plate with a sacrifice fly to right field.

Thompson conceded a lead-off single in the bottom of the seventh, but was able to force three consecutive outs to seal the win.

The Bona bats improved in game two with nine hits led by three pokes from junior Kathryn Pazda. Bricker and Strong also added a pair of hits, including a triple from Bricker.

After being held scoreless for six innings in their first action of the day, the Bonnies wasted little time in producing a run, taking a 1-0 lead in their first at-bat. Senior Andrea Swanger sparked the scoring as she reached first base with on a single to right field before stealing second to advance into scoring position. Swanger moved to third following a Morenus fielder's choice and was sent home by a Strong RBI single.

Strong struck again in the third with another RBI base knock to bring Bricker to the plate for a 2-0 Bona lead. Temple would trim the Bonnies' lead to a single run at 2-1 in the sixth inning with a two-out home run from Courtney Norene.

However, the Brown and White responded in their next time at the dish to regain a two-run cushion. Bricker opened the top of the seventh with a leadoff triple and crossed the plate for the second time of the game after a Morenus pop up to second base to bring the score to 3-1.

The Bonnies return to action on Saturday, March 29 for their home opener when George Washington travels to southwestern New York for a pair of games against the Brown and White. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
