AMBLER, Pa. - Despite plating just three runs over a pair of games this afternoon at La Salle, the St. Bonaventure softball team used two dominating performances from sophomore pitcher Sherri Thompson to take both contests from the Explorers at Ambler Field.

Thompson hurled a one-hitter in game one as the Brown and White's first inning run was enough to defeat the Explorers 1-0 to begin the day, while the Bona bats again provided its offense in its first attempt at the dish with two tallies in the initial frame en route to a 2-0 victory in the nightcap.

Today's doubleheader sweep in Philadelphia snapped a four-game St. Bonaventure losing streak for the club's first win since its Atlantic 10 Conference sweep at Temple on March 22. The Bonnies now hold a 10-14 overall mark, including an all important 5-3 record in the league. La Salle drops to 12-20 (4-8) on the season.

In just her second season in the circle, Thompson improved to 8-6 in 2008 thanks to her sixth and seventh career shutouts. The Ulysses, Pa. product allowed only five hits on the day while striking out a combined 14 Explorer batters in 14 innings of work. Thompson moved into fifth place on the all-time Bona win chart with 15 victories.

The Bona bats may not have produced offense often, but it was enough as all three of the club's runs were scored in the first frame of both contests. Junior Kathryn Pazda started game one with a leadoff single and quickly advanced to the plate following an RBI single from freshman Kara Morenus to put the Bonnies in front for good, 1-0.

La Salle's only hit came in the third inning on a one-out single from sophomore Gina Massaro, while the Explorers put themselves in scoring position on just three occasions.

St. Bonaventure again used first inning offense to clinch the victory in game two with a pair of RBI singles from Morenus and sophomore Stephanie Narde for the 2-0 win. Following her gem in game one, Thompson hurled a no-hitter through four frames before a trio of La Salle base knocks in the fifth for the home club's only real scoring threat during the nightcap.

Senior Brianna Bricker extended her hitting streak to a Bonnie season-high eight games following a 3-for-5 effort at the dish. Pazda, Morenus, Narde and freshman Shelly Seeger each accounted for one hit in each game on Friday.

The Brown and White will remain on the road for the 25th straight game this season as the club returns to action on Sunday, April 13 at Fordham. Game one of the doubleheader is slated for a noon start.
