ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - After failing to register a hit in the opener, the St. Bonaventure softball team rallied in Wednesday afternoon's second contest to earn a series split with Robert Morris at McGraw-Jennings Field.

The Colonial pitching tandem of senior Brenna Reed and freshman Lindsey Moates opened the doubleheader by no-hitting the Bonnies, while the Robert Morris bats produced an early run in the first frame on the way to a 1-0 game one triumph. The Bona bats warmed up in the nightcap to the tune of seven hits as a two-run third inning propelled the club to a 3-2 victory to salvage the series split.

Following the Brown and White's fifth straight doubleheader split of the season, the club improved to 17-19 on the season to match the school's fourth highest win total in program history and all in the Mike Threehouse coaching era. The Colonials moved to 24-17 in the 2008 campaign with wins in six of their last eight contests.

Despite picking up her second straight defeat on the mound in game one, sophomore pitcher Sherri Thompson (13-8) set a new St. Bonaventure single-season strikeout record after fanning 11 batters over today's two-game set. Thompson's 131 strikeouts this season surpassed the 122 K's hurled by former Bona ace Christine Keleher in 2006. In spite of registering the loss in game one, Thompson surrendered just four hits with one earned run in her 36th career complete game. The righty also recorded her second career save in game two as she tossed 2.2 innings of two-hit ball to preserve the Brown and White victory.

Robert Morris plated the game's only run in the first frame as its pitching staff held onto the slim lead for the remaining seven innings. The Colonial bats produced three of their four game one hits in the first frame as the visiting club put three singles into play to spark the only scoring in the opener. Not only did Reed play a part in the no-hitter, she also drove in her club's only run of the contest with an RBI single into right field. Junior Lindsey Nisivoccia's run accounted for the only score of the game en route to a 1-0 victory.

The Colonial pitching staff was nearly perfect in game one as the only Bona runners to enter the base paths reached due to a pair of walks. The Brown and White earned one base on balls in both the third and fourth frame, but neither was able to advance off the first bag.

After notching a pair of hits in the opening two innings of game two, the Bonnies finally crossed the plate in the third frame with two runs to take their first lead of the afternoon at 2-0. Junior Kathryn Pazda ignited the scoring with a two-out single up the middle and quickly advanced into scoring position following her third stolen base of the season. The Bonnies would score twice thanks to a pair of RBI's from their 2-3 senior batters. Senior Andrea Swanger brought Pazda to the plate thanks to a single through the left side followed by Brianna Bricker's double into right center, scoring Swanger from first.

In her sixth start of the season, freshman Sarah Signore mimicked her Robert Morris counterparts by twirling a no-hitter into the fifth frame. After the Colonials sliced the lead in half at 2-1, Thompson was brought in from the bullpen to relieve Signore in hopes of preserving the lead.

The Bona bats responded in the sixth by adding one run onto their lead as senior Kirstin Strong smoked a one-run double into right center to push the Bonnies' advantage to 3-1 heading into the final frame.

Robert Morris made it interesting in the top of the seventh thanks to a leadoff single from freshman Annie Dubovec followed by a base on balls from senior Camille Kline. Both runners advanced a base after a passed ball before Dubovec was sent to the plate thanks to a sacrifice fly from junior Kristin McDaniel to trim the Bona lead to 3-2. However, shortly after Dubovec crossed the dish, Kline was caught in between bases and was eventually tagged for the game-ending out.

Signore picked up her second win of the season and first since a 4-3 triumph over Mount St. Mary on February 29th.

The Brown and White return to action on Saturday, April 26 for an Atlantic 10 doubleheader at Dayton. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
