Former Bonnie Nagro named head softball coach at D'Youville College
Feb. 10, 2008
ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - Former St. Bonaventure softball catcher Anna Nagro will move from behind the plate and into the dugout this season as the Brown and White backstop from 2003-07 was named the new head coach at D'Youville College earlier this week. In her first season in charge of the Lady Spartans, Nagro will take over a program that finished 5-21 in 2007 with all five victories in their final eight contests. Nagro will make her debut on the sidelines March 22 in Myrtle Beach, S.C. "I am very proud of Anna and her success on and off the field, while she was a rock behind the plate for us here at St. Bonaventure," said head coach Mike Threehouse. "I know she will be a very positive influence in the lives of all the student-athletes she will have the privilege to coach at D'Youville College." The Buffalo, N.Y. native concluded her four-year career with the Bonnies this past spring as one of the premier catchers in program history. Nagro called 150 games from behind the plate and helped guide the Bonnies to consecutive Atlantic 10 Championship appearances in 2005 and 2006. During her four seasons in the Brown and White, Nagro also developed into an offensive threat at the dish as she ranks among the school's top 10 in at-bats (422/7th), doubles (23/t-5th), home runs (8/5th) and RBI (65/5th). Nagro earned a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education at St. Bonaventure and is currently working towards a masters degree in sports administration from Canisius College. With her appointment as D'Youville's new skipper, Nagro joins three Bona softball alumnae in the coaching ranks heading into the 2008 season. Also a former catcher with the Bonnies, Amanda Davey enters her second season as the head coach at Husson College (Maine) following two years as an assistant and interim boss at Wayne College. Kim Dodson and Dawn Setter also developed their softball careers at McGraw-Jennings Field before joining coaching staffs as assistants at Canisius and Hartford, respectively.
