ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - In their last four wins, the women's swimming and diving team had beaten opponents by an average of 72 points. The Bona women boosted that average Friday night, downing St. Francis (PA) by 87 points ,146-59, at the Reilly Center pool. In their second-last home meet of the season, the Bonnies honored their seniors. The six four-year letterwomen recognized included Taryn Ahern, Jessica Hober, Meghan King, Anneli Johnson, Tara Cibula and Catherine Donahue. On an evening where the women took all 11 swimming events, sophomores Kara Small and Allison Smith recorded two wins a piece. Small touched first in the 200-yard IM (2:15.02) and paced the competition in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing with a time of 5:15.01. In the 100-yard backstroke, Valentine clocked in at 59.92, good enough for first. King grabbed gold in the 50-yard freestyle (25.10), while Johnson came close to breaking her own record in the 100-yard breaststroke. Johnson finished with a time of 1:04.47, almost passing her record of 1:04.45 set earlier this year at the Reilly Center. The women continued their dominance in the evening's relay events. Valentine, Johnson, Whalen and King posted a winning time of 1:49.59 in the 200-yard medley relay. In the 400-yard freestyle relay, Ahern, King, Smith and Hober finished first with a team season-best time of 3:36.75. On the boards, sophomore Gina Hendrickson posted a team season-best score of 184.88 points in the one-meter dive. With the win, the Bona women improve to 7-2 (2-0) on the season and have just one home meet remaining against the University of Buffalo on Wednesday, Feb. 6 at 6 p.m. The Bonnies immediately return to action tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. when they travel to the Oxy Aquatic center to take on Niagara's swimmers and divers. |
