Bonnies slip to seventh on second day of championships

BUFFALO, N.Y. - The St. Bonaventure women's swimming and diving team dipped to seventh place in the second day of competition at the Atlantic 10 Championships held in the Flickinger Center Thursday night.

The Brown and White hold a two-point lead above St. Louis (97) with Richmond University topping the women's board with 262 points. Fordham is in second with 195.5 points followed by Duquesne in third with 152. University of Massachusetts holds fourth (164.4) followed by La Salle in fifth (143). The Bonnies are nine points behind sixth-place Xavier (108).

In the 500-yard freestyle, freshman Jamie Noonan placed sixth in the championship rounds with a 5:00.47 finish. Kate Cherry, competing in her last A-10 championship, swam a 5:06.02 for a 14th-place finish in the 500 free consolation finals.

Noonan hit the lanes again for the 200-yard freestyle relay with senior Allison Whalen, junior Allison Smith and freshman Lanae Petty. The foursome raced a 1:37.01 for eighth place

In the 50-yard freestyle, freshman Lanae Petty touched the wall in 24.11 for a 15th place in the consolation finals.

The Brown and White will begin its third day of competition in the A-10 Championships beginning 10:30 a.m. tomorrow with the prelims followed by the finals at 7:30 p.m.
