Women's Tennis rolls to a 5-2 win over Geneseo

April 6, 2009

ST BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - The St. Bonaventure women's tennis team pulled out a 5-2 victory over Geneseo on Saturday afternoon at the SBU Tennis Center.

With the win, the Bonnies move to 3-13 in the spring season while Geneseo, who is a member of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) drops to 12-2 overall.

The Brown and White captured five of six singles matches to secure the victory despite defaulting at the number six singles and number three doubles positions. Freshman Manuela Marin-Salcedo, sophomore Maria Barousse, senior Ana Delgado and junior Vanessa Rumpel were all victorious in both singles and doubles.

Marin-Salcedo had a very efficient day on the court, as she posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory at her number one singles position while teaming with Barousse to post a 8-0 victory at her number one doubles slot.

The best match of the day probably came at the number three singles position. Rumpel had to go the distance in order to put away Geneseo junior Anna Lehet 6-2, 5-7, 10-4.

The Bonnies return to action on April 7, when St. Bonaventure hosts Big 4 rival Niagara for a 3:00 p.m. match.
