Bonnies end regular season with win over Niagara

April 8, 2009

ST BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - The St. Bonaventure women's tennis team battled its way to a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Big 4 rival Niagara on Tuesday afternoon at the SBU Tennis Center to end its regular season.

The Bonnies win, their third in a row, moves their overall record to 4-13 in the spring season heading into the Atlantic 10 Tournament. Niagara, who already clinched the regular-season MAAC title, drops to 9-11 on the season with the loss.

The Brown and White captured the doubles point while receiving singles victories at the number one, two and four positions to secure the victory. Freshman Manuela Marin-Salcedo, sophomore Maria Barousse and senior Ana Delgado were all victorious in both singles and doubles.

The best match of the day probably came at the number two singles position. Barousse had to go the distance in order to put away Niagara sophomore Raquel Solis 6-1, 2-6, 6-4.

The Bonnies will conclude their season when they take part in the Atlantic 10 Tournament from April 17-19. The Tournament will be hosted by Duquesne at the Club 4 Life Tennis Center in Monroeville, Pa.
