Cross Country opens season at Duquesne Duals

Aug. 31, 2008

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The St. Bonaventure men's and women's cross country teams opened the 2008 campaign with ninth and eighth place finishes, respectively, at the Duquesne Duals in Schenley Oval early Saturday morning.

In this season's opening meet, senior Justin Isaman paced all men with a team-best 57th place overall result. Isaman crossed the 8K course finish line in 29:12, just one-tenth of a second behind the 56th place runner.

Sophomore Jimmy Burton followed Isaman off the course, clocking in at 30:18 and a place in the 74th spot. A trio of Bonnies came in shortly after Burton as freshman Kevin Kirby (30:45/82nd), junior Michael Grosso (30:47/83rd) and sophomore Rob Ryer (30:54/85th) finished closely in a group of three.

Second-year runners Rahkeem Wright (31:39) and Scott Shelters (31:40) rounded out the men with 92nd and 93rd results.

Despite failing to notch a point in Pittsburgh, the women's side placed a pair of runners among the overall top 50. Sophomore Jamie Sullivan led all Brown and White women with a 21:08 result on the 5k course for 38th place. Fellow classmate Caitlin Palmer followed in 47th with a time of 21:40.

In their first meet with the Bonnies, sophomore Tiffany Barkley posted a time of 23:06 just ahead of freshman Elizabeth Moran (23:17).

Sophomore Tabitha Slachciak (23:35), freshman Lauren Russo (23:51), sophomore Keelan O'Connell (24:14), freshman Colleen Contestible (24:59), sophomore Kimberly Fuller (25:00) and freshman Chelsea Rashid (26:09) also competed with the Bonnies at the Duals.

Both teams return to action next weekend at the Harry Lang Invitational in Hamilton, N.Y on Saturday, September 6. Start time is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
