QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's men's and women's fencing teams competed in the annual Penn State Invitational at University Park, Pa. this weekend. Both Red Storm teams went into the event ranked among the top 10 in the nation, according to the United States Fencing Coaches Association (USFCA) Poll.

The No. 7 Red Storm women swept the No. 9 Nittany Lions, 17-10, in all events. Penn State held a strong competition in the foil but fell 5-4. St. John's came out victorious in the sabre and epee, 6-3.

The Red Storm men competed well against Penn State in the NCAA dual meet. The No. 1 Nittany Lions defeated No. 6 St. John's by a final score of 16-11. The Red Storm defeated the Nittany Lions, 5-4, in the sabre, but fell, 6-3, in the foil and epee.

The Red Storm fencing teams return to action on March 2 at the Northeast Regional Championships held at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
