March 3, 2008 QUEENS, N.Y. - The Red Storm fencing team had a total of 11 men and women qualify for the 2008 NCAA Championships this weekend at the Northeast Regional Championships at Vassar College's Walker Field House in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Seventeen teams from the country's largest region competed for placement in the NCAA Championships. On the men's team, senior Luther Clement placed first in the sabre, while teammate and freshman Charles Worsham placed third. Senior Henry Kennard placed sixth in the foil and freshman Brendan Meyers finished ninth. In the epee, junior Stan Vaksman and sophomore Mykhaylo Mokretsov placed fouth and fifth, respectively.
On the women's side, senior captain Monika Golebiewski placed second in the foil and sophomore Katia Larchanka earned the third seed. Sophomore Tanya Novakovska and senior Reka Szele also locked up the first and third seeds in the women's epee. Representing the Red Storm in the sabre will be freshman Martyna Wieczorek, who placed third. The 2008 NCAA Championships will be held in Columbus, Ohio on March 13-16. The event will be hosted by The Ohio State University.
