QUEENS, N.Y. - Freshman designated hitter Paul Karmas has been named a Louisville Slugger freshman All-American as selected by the Collegiate Baseball newspaper. This marks the second straight year that St. John's has had a Louisville Slugger freshman All-American (Brian Kemp-2007). Karmas represents St. John's as one of seven BIG EAST players selected to the team. An All-BIG EAST second team selection, Karmas batted .312 in 56 games. The DH led the team with 68 hits and had a team-best 17 doubles. Karmas also led the team with 45 RBI and added three home runs. Karmas posted a .431 slugging percentage and had a .379 on-base percentage. The freshman's 17 doubles rank tied for eighth all-time in the St. John's single season record books. Karmas led the Red Storm with 13 multi-RBI games and tied for the team lead with 19 multi-hit games. The freshman also had a 15-game hitting streak, which tied for the second longest on the team.
