EASTON, Pa. - The St. John's lacrosse team topped Lafayette, 7-5, at Rappolt Field Saturday in its last non-conference game of the season. Midfielder Felix Forbes (Corning, N.Y.) scored the game-winner with eight minutes left in the contest.

Forbes dived and dodged by several Lafayette defenders to score the goal on the doorstep. The midfielder also tallied a goal earlier in the fourth quarter off a pass from midfielder Tom Manes (Philadelphia, Pa.).

The Red Storm came out firing, scoring three goals in the first quarter and one in the second to put the team up 4-0. Attackman Tom Michaelsen (Bethpage, N.Y.) led the charge with one goal and two assists, while attackman Graeme Gillespie (Ithaca, N.Y.) recorded one goal and one assist. Manes and midfielder Jack Rosson (Severna Park, Md.) also netted a goal a piece in the run.

The Leopards responded with a 4-0 run of their own through the second and third quarters to knot the score. Lafayette attackman John Galassi scored two of the goals.

In the fourth quarter, the Red Storm went up 5-4 on Forbes' first goal, but Leopards attackman Mike Meirowitz tied the game with less than 10 minutes to go in regulation. Forbes tallied the game-winner a minute and a half later, and midfielder Bobby Fitton (Oak Hill, Va.) sealed the victory with three minutes left in the game.

Red Storm goaltender Dave Saccente (Lake Grove, N.Y.) muted 13 Leopard shots while Lafayette goalie Jeff Canfield recorded 7 saves. St. John's won nine of 15 faceoffs and collected two more groundballs. Lafayette, meanwhile, took five more shots.

The Red Storm improves to 4-4 on the season and is 0-2 in ECAC Conference play. The Leopards fall to 1-7 overall and are 0-3 in the Patriot League. With the win this afternoon, St. John's doubles its win total from last season. The Red Storm posted a 2-11 record in 2005, which was the team's first year since the program was ended following the 1995 season.
