Renato Motoyama is in his first season as the graduate assistant coach of the St. John's men's tennis program. He is responsible for helping to manage the squad, both during practice and competitions, and to handle the daily operations of the club.
The native of Brazil has both coached and played on the collegiate level in his career thus far, last working as the assistant men's and women's tennis coach at Bethany College in Kansas. There he was responsible for recruiting, budgeting, scheduling, community relations and many other tasks. He played NCAA tennis for four years at Norfolk State and Southern Nazarene University.
Motoyama worked as a tennis instructor at Tella Tennis Academy in Brazil and coached the Brazilian Under-16 Juniors team from 1997-99.
Motoyama graduated with a B.S. in athletic training from Southern Nazarene in 2003. He is currently pursuing a master's in business administration with a concentration in international business.
