QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's women's basketball team continues its run in the Women's National Invitation Tournament and extends its 2007-08 campaign when it hosts Boston College on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the WNIT third round. The Red Storm was victorious in its second round contest on Monday with a 65-59 win over Iona. With the win over Iona, the Red Storm makes its first ever appearance in the third round. In addition, this is the furthest a Red Storm squad under the direction of head coach Kim Barnes Arico has advanced. St. John's record in the WNIT now improves to 2-1. The game will feature live stats and will have video and audio streamed on the internet. Fans can go to RedStormSports.com to access both features, which are free. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. St. John's students can pick up free tickets at Montgoris Dining Hall starting at 6 p.m. on Thursday. Tickets are subject to availability. After receiving an at-large berth and first-round bye, the Red Storm took the floor on Monday after having two weeks off and took care of business with the win over Iona. Monique McLean and Kia Wright had huge performances for St. John's. The two combined for over half the team's points (McLean 20 pts., Wright 16 pts.) and each tied for the team best with seven rebounds. Boston College -- former league rival of the Red Storm -- played a close game with Vermont in its second round contest but pulled away from the Catamounts in the end for the 76-64 win. Three players scored in double figures for the Eagles, who improved to 21-11 on the season. Thursday's contest marks the 42nd meeting between St. John's and Boston College. The Eagles have the edge in the series 28-13, however the Red Storm has played its old conference foe tough at Carnesecca Arena, as the Eagles only have an 11-9 advantage. The last St. John's win snapped BC's 13-game win streak against the Red Storm, 69-52, on Feb. 5, 2005, in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
