QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's women's soccer team continued its strong efforts during its spring campaign this past weekend, traveling to Villanova and tying the Wildcats, 1-1, on Sunday.

"I am really pleased with the progress of the team," said St. John's women's soccer coach Ian Stone. "This was an intense, physical BIG EAST game. It was great for us to see where we are at, where we have progressed. This was a good performance, but we still get the opportunity to work hard over the next week. The big thing is that we are improving defensively. I like the attitude and work ethic of the girls."

The Red Storm did not waste any time getting on the board in the game. At the 1:45 mark, Sarah McGrath fed a long pass to Kelly McConnell. The sophomore then crossed the ball to Amanda Santos, who pounded the ball into the back of the net off a diving header. The Wildcats countered 15 minutes into the second half and knotted the score. The contest remained scoreless the remainder of the way as both team's defenses played well.

On April 19, the women's soccer team hosted its annual alumnae match. The current Red Storm team defeated the alumnae, 2-1, thanks to Tatiana Duggan's two goals.

St. John's will wrap up its spring campaign on Saturday when it travels to Columbia for a pair of games. The Red Storm will face Princeton at noon and Columbia at 1:30 p.m.
