St. John's Travels To New England To Face Two BIG EAST Foes

QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's softball team will head to the Northeast to take on two BIG EAST foes. The Red Storm will face UConn in Storrs, Conn. before traveling to Rhode Island to take the Friars of Providence.

• On Saturday, the Red Storm will play at the UConn Softball Field in a double- header at noon.
• St. John's will head to Raymond Field on the campus of PC for a doubleheader on Sunday. First pitch is slated for noon.
• The Red Storm trails the all-time series with UConn, 12-50. Last season in Queens, the teams split in a doubleheader.
• St. John's leads the all-time series with Providence, 36-29. The Friars took the first game of a doubleheader at Red Storm Field in extra innings, but the Red Storm took the next game 5-4.
• Over the past month, the Red Storm has a .286 team batting average and boasts a 2.49 team ERA.

STORM TRACKER

Red Storm's Big Three
St. John's is paced by three players who are having great seasons for the Red Storm. Sophomore Brandy Reyes paces the Red Storm with a .353 average on the season. Reyes also has a home run and 14 RBI this year. Freshman Kacee Cox boasts a .310 average in her rookie campaign. The third baseman leads the Red Storm with six home runs and 26 RBI this year. Cox has also been selected to the BIG EAST honor roll twice this year. The third member of the big three for St. John's is junior Roxy Struble. The first baseman has a .294 average this year and is second on the team with 10 doubles and 16 RBI. The junior was also St. John's first BIG EAST Player of the Week in almost two years.

A Month Of Funn
Over the past month, outfielder Alyson Funn has been great at the plate for St. John's. The graduate student is batting .344 over 33 games with seven runs, two doubles, a triple, a home run, six RBI and two stolen bases.

Shane On You
After starting out slow this season, sophomore Shauntaine Harris has turned it on this season. Over the past month the center fielder is batting .300 with six runs, three doubles, two triples, a home run and 11 RBI.

B's got Burn
Senior Bionka King has been very dangerous on the base paths this year. Over the past month the second baseman is seven of eight on stolen base attempts and has 12 on the year.

Kat Piles up the K's
Freshman starter Kat Lawrence has been great for St. John's this season and boasts a 1.82 ERA over the past month. Lawrence has completed eight of the nine games she has started over this span as well as striking 63 batters in 61.2 innings this month.

SCOUTING UCONN

• The Huskies are 15-15 this season and 4-2 in the BIG EAST Conference.
• UConn went 22-21, 10-9 last year. The Huskies return 12 letterwinners along with six starters and two pitchers.
• Head coach Karen Mullins is in her 24th year with UConn and boasts a 705-440-5 record with the team.
• Freshman Melissa Lucas paces the Huskies with a. 400 average in 23 starts. Lucas boasts four doubles, two triples, three home runs, 12 RBI and 4 stolen bases on the season.
• Another freshman, Melissa Towers has been equally impressive, batting .322 in 30 starts. Towers has six doubles, and 10 RBI on 29 hits.
• Junior Jillian Ortega and Micah Truax are batting .302 and .284, respectively. Ortega has six double and four home runs while Truax boasts five doubles, three home runs, 12 RBI and 5 stolen bases on the year.
• The Huskie pitching staff is led by sophomore Tricia Sullivan who has a 2.73 ERA and a 9-7 record on the year. She has also struck out 99 batters in 92.1 innings.

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE

• The Friars are 15-16-1 this season and 1-5 in the BIG EAST Conference.
• Providence went 23-24 a season ago and 6-14 in the BIG EAST. The Friars return 12 letterwinners including seven starters and two pitchers.
• Head coach Kerri Jacklets in her second year with the program and has a 52-43-1 record in that time.
• Junior Mary Rose Sheehy is batting .393 on the season in 31 games for the Friars. The outfielder has 12 runs, five doubles, two home runs and 18 RBI this year.
• Sophomore Christy Becker has been dangerous for Providence. The infielder has five home runs and 24 RBI to pace the team.
• Sophomore Katelyn Revens is also batting above .300 this season. The second-year player is hitting .347 with 19 runs, 6 RBI and 15 stolen bases.
• Sophomore Danielle Bertolette leads the Friar staff with a 2.18 ERA. Bertolette has seven wins and six complete games in 15 starts.
• Junior Jennifer Maccio has been just as stellar, recording a 2.79 ERA in 12 starts. She has seven wins and four complete games this year.
