QUEENS, N.Y. - Junior Paula Rennalls earned the third ECAC qualifying time for the St. John's track & field team with her third place finish in the 200-meter dash at Saturday's Great Dane Classic, hosted by University of Albany at the 168th Street Armory in Manhattan. Rennalls finished with a time of 25:13, a new season-best time in the event. High jumpers Priscilla Frederick and Venisa Clarke-Lee earned ECAC qualifying distances at the Red Storm's previous two meets. As a team, the Red Storm finished with 28 points and earned five BIG EAST qualifying scores. Junior Phobay Kutu-Akoi, sophomores Asia Davy and Fayanne Francis and freshman Kate Dulmovits added their names to the list of St. John's athletes representing the Red Storm at the BIG EAST Championship in mid-February. Kutu-Akoi and Dulmovits had back-to-back finishes in the 200-meter dash finishing sixth and seventh, respectively, with times of 25.45 and 25.50. The pair earned five points for the Red Storm. Competing in the 500-meter run, Davy earned two points for St. John's with a seventh place time of 1:17.12. Francis also registered a new season-best distance and earned three points for the Red Storm with a sixth place finish of 5.62 meters (18 feet, 5.25 inches), in the long jump. Graduate Student Kellie Brown came in ninth with a distance of 5.46 meters (17 feet, 11 inches).
Brown, who had qualified for the BIG EAST Championship earlier in the season, earned one point and bested her distance in the triple jump by .07 meters. Brown finished eighth in the event with a distance of 11.43 meters (37 feet, 6 inches). Senior Dominique Eason was runner-up in the weight throw event with a distance of 14.70 meters (48 feet, 3.25 inches), and tallied eight points for the Red Storm. Earning three points, junior Tyneka Greene also finished in the top 10 in the 1,000-meter dash with a sixth place time of 3:00.92. Also finishing in the top-15 in their respective events were freshmen Ashlee Payne who posted a 14th place time in the 500-meter dash, Sarah Sudbury and Shakira Best came in 10th and 12th in the 800-meter run, while Francis and junior Marie Griffiths finished 14th and 16th, respectively, in the triple jump and freshman Rachel Williams who hurled a 13th place distance in the weight throw. Next up, the Red Storm will compete in its first championship meet of the indoor season, traveling back to the Armory for the Indoor Metropolitan Championships on Feb. 1.
