QUEENS, N.Y. - After two days of competition at the Indoor BIG EAST Championship at the 168th street Armory the Red Storm track & field team came away with three top-8 finishes, including a third place finish by freshman Priscilla Frederick. As a team St. John's finished 16th with 10.50 points. Frederick, who has paced St. John's all season, finished third in the high jump with a distance of 1.75 meters (5 feet, 8.75 inches) matching her season-best height. Frederick tied with Rachael Porter from Connecticut for third, while Carin Knight of Connecticut and Jillian Drouin from Syracuse finished first and second, respectively. Venisa Clarke-Lee also competed in the event, finishing 13th with a distance of 1.60 meters (5 feet, 3 inches). Graduate student Kellie Brown also earned points for the Red Storm with her fifth place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 12.07 meters (39 feet, 7.25 inches), qualifying her for the ECAC Championship on March 8-9 in Boston, Mass. Junior Phobay Kutu-Akoi finished eighth in the 60-meter dash finals on Sunday, also with an ECAC qualifying time of 7.68 seconds. In the prior day's preliminaries, Kutu-Akoi finished third in her heat with a time of 7.64 seconds. Fellow classmate Paula Rennalls also finished third in her heat but her ECAC qualifying time of 7.65 seconds was not fast enough to qualify her for the finals. Kutu-Akoi and Rennalls also earned ECAC qualifiers in the 200-meter dash, both finishing fourth in their respective heats. Rennalls finished with a time of 24.93 and Kutu-Akoi crossed the tape at 25.07 seconds. In relay action, the Red Storm qualified two of the three relays for the ECAC Championship as the 800-meter relay finished 12th with a time of 9:22.18 and the 400-meter relay finished 11th with a time of 3:52.60. The distance medley relay finished 13th with a time of 12:26.54. After the first day of competition, sophomore Asia Davy finished third in her heat in the 500-meter dash crossing the tape at 1:16.26.
