St. John's Alums Stewart & Barrett to Compete for Jamaican National Team in World University Games

Queens, NY - St. John's University track and field graduates Kerrian Stewart (Kingston, Jamaica) and DeWayne Barrett were named to the Jamaican National team and will compete in the World University Games, August 10th - 21st in Ishmer, Turkey.

Stewart, who completed her final year of eligibility with St. John's in 2005, won the BIG EAST Championship in the 60m indoors and 400m outdoors and was the ECAC 60m champion and 100m champion. She also placed sixth in the 200m dash at the Jamaican National Championships in June, clocking in at 23.60.

Barrett, a 2004 graduate, took fourth in the 200m at the Jamaican Championships clocking 20.88 and placed seventh in the Central American and Caribbean Championships at 20.75. He holds St. John's records for the 400m (45.88) and 200m (21.36).

"Kerrian and DeWayne are having great seasons this summer and we are very proud that they will participate at the World University Games for Jamaica," said St. John's head coach Jim Hurt. "We have always encouraged our athletes to compete at the highest possible levels and both Kerrian and DeWayne will do so next month in Turkey."
