QUEENS, N.Y. -
The St. John's volleyball team continued its spring exhibition schedule this past weekend at the third annual "Spike Out Breast Cancer" Tournament, hosted by Hofstra University. The Red Storm captured the title after defeating five teams in its pool to advance to the playoffs where the squad bested Fordham, 2-0.
In pool play, St. John's beat Columbia, Long Island and Adelphi in the morning session, each by 2-0 scores. Then the teams took a break for a lunch and made donations to help find a cure for breast cancer.
Then it was back to the hardwood as the team came out and swept both Stony Brook and Fairfield to claim the top spot in the pool. STJ met the Rams of Fordham University in the playoff for the top spot. St. John's defeated its inner-city rival 2-0 to capture the title.
The Red Storm returns to action on Saturday, April 26, when the team travels to LIU in Brooklyn, N.Y. for its third and final spring exhibition tournament.
