Hotaling Headlines All-MAAC Men's Lacrosse Honors

May 1, 2008

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Erik Hotaling, Scott Cullinan, and Tom Wengenosky received All-MAAC Lacrosse League honors on Thursday in voting conducted by the league's coaches. Hotaling was named to the MAAC First Team as a goalkeeper, while Cullinan and Wengenosky earned Second Team honors in the attack and defense, respectively. Five other Hawks landed on the MAAC Men's Lacrosse All-Academic Team.

Hotaling, a junior out of Syracuse N.Y. and Bishop Ludden High School was a rock in the cage this season for Saint Joseph's. Leading the MAAC in saves, the net-minder posted the third-best single season performance in goals against average (8.61 GAA) in SJU history. With another impressive season under his belt, Hotaling is the career leader in goals against (9.02 GAA) in his three years thus far. Earlier this season, Hotaling received MAAC Defensive Player of the Week in two wins versus Mount St. Mary's and Wagner where he gave up just seven goals (3.50 GAA) and made 28 saves (.800 save percentage).

Cullinan (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) and Wengenosky (Mineola, N.Y./Trinity) landed on the MAAC Second Team for their efforts this season on opposite ends of the fields. Cullinan led the team in goals (28) and tied for first in points (31) during his rookie campaign. He also led the MAAC in man-up goals with nine this season.

Wengenosky provided aggressive and more disciplined defense in the back this year. The leading penalty-committer last season, the junior refined his defensive play, leading the team in ground balls (46) and causing the second most turnovers on the team (19). Additionally, the defender added two goals and an assist, tops among the Hawk defensive corps in 2008.

Senior Rob Keogh (Houston, Texas/Strake Jesuit), juniors Chris Cole (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown East), Paul Crisafulli (Syracuse, N.Y./Corcoran) and John Harmonay (Yorktown, N.Y./Yorktown), and sophomore Peter Slowik (Lafayette, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) were named to the MAAC Men's Lacrosse All-Academic Team.

Slowik's 3.89 cumulative GPA was tops on the team followed by the graduating Keogh (3.62). Cole, Crisafulli and Harmonay were all on the squad last season, while Keogh earned All-Academic honors in 2006. To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must complete two semesters at their institution and hold a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale.
