Men's Distance Medley and Freshman Impress at Giegengack Invitational

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The SJU men's track squad competed at the Third Annual Giegengack Invitational hosted at Yale University on Friday and Saturday. The Hawks had top finishes by the Distance Medley Relay (fifth), Drew Brandt (eight/200m) and Jared Sabre (eigth/500m dash). Saint Joseph's DMR squad has been a highlight all season, already qualifying for the IC4A Championships in March. On Friday, the DMR clocked 10:09.04 to earn fifth place. Brandt had a solid meet, doubling in two individual events, garnering eight place in the 200m (22.79) and 11th in the 400m (50.70). Sabre, a standout freshman thus far, also earned an eighth place finish, coming in the 500m (1:07.06). Another freshman, George Arcarola, had an impressive collegiate debut in the 500m finishing just behind Sabre in 1:08.14, good for 10th. Fellow classmate, Ryan Fenimore also turned in a good performance in the mile, going for ninth and a 2008 team-best 4:17.74. Junior Kyle Murray ran the best 3,000m run of the season, finishing 12th in a highly-competitive field, in a time of 8:26.75. His time was good enough to qualify him for the IC4A Championships. Junior Steve Young added a solid performance, running 1:55.30 in the 800m for 10th place.
