4x800m Relays Shine for Men's Track in New York
Feb. 29, 2008
NEW YORK, N.Y.--The Saint Joseph's Men's Track team concluded its regular season portion of the indoor season at the NYU Fastrack Meet held at the Amory Track Center on Friday night. SJU ran two 4x800m relay squads that finished second and fourth respectively. The "A" team of freshmen Ryan Fenimore, Brian Guterl, George Arcarola, and Jesse Brooks ran to a silver medal finish in a time of 7:51.42. Not far behind was SJU's "B" team in a time of 7:53.80, good for fourth. Delaware State took gold with a time of 7:48.53. The 4x400m relay's bid to qualify for the IC4As came to a halt, falling two seconds short in a time of 3:21.24. Earlier this season, SJU's 4x400m relay squad finished just four-tenths of a second from qualifying for next week's meet. In the 800m dash, the Hawks ran seven harriers, one of whom was just a second off from qualifying for his second individual event in the IC4As. Steve Young was 10th with a time of 1:55.42, falling short of the 1:54.25 mark. Young has already qualified in the 1,000m, doing so at Penn State in January. Two other mid-distance runners were a bit too slow to qualify in the 1,000m, as Guterl (2:31.81) and Fenimore (2:32.49) were fifth and sixth, respectively. Next week, a selected group of athletes will travel to the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, Mass. to compete in the IC4A Championships. Young and Guterl will be joined by Kyle Murray, the Distance Medley and the 4x800m Relay squads to complete the indoor track season.
