Murray and Rowland Lead Hawks in Williamsburg to 18th Place

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The Saint Joseph's men's track & field team finished with 10 points, 19th of 21 teams at the Colonial Relays hosted by William and Mary this weekend. The Hawks saw impressive performances put together by Kyle Murray in the 10,000-meter run and the 4x800m relay squad. Murray, SJU's top distance threat, placed second in the 10,000m in a time of 31:44.02. His finish garnered eight of SJU's 10 points, all of which were earned on Friday in the event, for the entire weekend. Murray finished 42 seconds behind winner, Joe Parks of Iona. Fellow teammate, Will Rowland was 36 seconds behind Murray and won two points for the Hawks with his 32:20.66, fifth-place performance. The 4x800m relay turned in a solid performance with its seventh-place finish in the event. Besting the 2007 outdoor mark by four seconds with two juniors (Stephen Young and Brendan Kearney) and two freshmen (Jesse Brooks and Brian Guterl) on the squad. The team finished the eight-lap race in a time of 7:43.86. The Distance Medley Relay matched the showing of the 4x800m in the form of seventh place. The team of Luke Fischer, Jared Sabre, Brian Doherty and Ryan Fenimore ran a time of 10:16.87.
After that, just one other top ten performance was put together by SJU. That came when the 4x100m relay contingent of Paul Barolette, Drew Brandt, Brian Smith, and Bobby Staten completed the 400m race in 43.25. Saint Joseph's will travel to Virginia again next weekend to compete at the Onesty Invitational hosted by the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.
