Saint Joseph's Retires Moran's Jersey
Feb. 28, 2008
PHILADELPHIA - Over the past 35 seasons, Saint Joseph's women's basketball program has seen hundreds of student-athletes don the Crimson and Gray and embody the spirit of the University's "Hawk Will Never Die" motto. On the afternoon of February 24, the Hawks honored one of the all-time greats as Saint Joseph's made Susan Moran `02 only the second Hawk in program history to have her jersey retired. Helping the Hawks to two NCAA Tournament appearances and the 1999 Atlantic 10 Championship, the four-year letterwinner was a four-time A-10 All-Conference and Big 5 honoree. An All-American Honorable Mention as a senior, Moran went on to collect A-10 and Big 5 Player of the Year accolades, along with A-10 Student-Athlete of the Year and Academic All-America honors in 2002. Starting all 122 games over her four seasons, she is the only Hawk in SJU history to lead her team in both scoring and rebounding all four seasons. She capped her career as the all-time leading scorer with 2,340 points. Currently an assistant coach on Hawk Hill, the Tullamore Ireland native was joined by her mother and former basketball coaches in a pregame ceremony in which Moran's #10 joined Dale Hodges #44 in the Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse rafters.
