Hawks Sweep Rider in Women's Tennis Regular Season Finale

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ - The Saint Joseph's women's tennis team finished its regular season with a strong showing Monday evening at Rider, sweeping every match for a 7-0 victory. With the win, the Hawks improve to 8-6 on the year as they ready for the Atlantic 10 Championships later this week. The Hawks made quick work of the Broncs in the doubles competition, winning all three fights to earn the first point of the match. Senior Stephania Velazquez and sophomore Jennifer Kedzierski posted an 8-5 victory over Danielle Morse and Kristina Paich at No. 1 doubles, while senior Gina DiGiacomo and freshman Maggie Mullaney topped Sabrina Govindarajan and Amanda Matticks, 8-3 at No. 2 doubles. Senior Lauren Kuhmerker and freshman Katy Borden completed the sweep with an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles. Individually, Saint Joseph's was steady through out singles play, posting straight-set victories at all six flights. Velazquez earned a 6-0, 7-6 (7-4) win at No. 1 singles, while Kedzierski won a dominating 6-0, 6-0 match at No. 2 singles. Playing at No. 3 singles, DiGiacomo won 6-1, 6-1, while Kuhmerker earned a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles. Junior Tristin Reppert and freshman Katy Borden rounded out the sweep for the Hawks with wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively. Saint Joseph's opens play at the Atlantic 10 Championship this Friday at 10:30 a.m. versus Duquesne at the Club 4 Life in Monroeville, Pennsylvania.
